On January 31, 2014, Friday, a national special non-working holiday in celebration of the Chinese New Year. It is considered to be the most important festival for the Chinese community in the Philippines.
Based on Malacañang's Proclamation No. 655 series of 2013 signed by President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, which enumerates the holidays for the year 2014, long weekends will kick off with the celebration of Chinese New Year on January 31, Friday, which has been declared a special non-working day.
The Republic Act 9492 dictates that for every legal non-working holiday, all working establishments should give incentives or overtime pay to their employees.
